CASA GUALDA PLUS ULTRA 2006
EXCELLENT AND NOTABLE RATINGS FOR THE RIBERA DEL JÚCAR PDO ACCORDING TO ROBERT PARKER
Casa Gualda Plus Ultra and Casa Gualda Syrah wines have rated 90 and 87 points respectively in the 2010 list that the famed wine critic has published
The leading U.S. wine critic Robert Parker has just recently started to make known to all his ratings of the best wines of the world, this according to his opinion and as is duly published in the magazine “The Wine Advocate”. In the case of the Ribera del Júcar PDO wines, their listing in the magazine is now a commonplace matter and this year the same thing has happened as in past editions: that the wines of this PDO appear amongst the best in the world, with Casa Gualda Plus Ultra in this case obtaining 90 points over 100 in Robert Parker’s list, while Casa Gualda Syrah has obtained 87 points. Both belong to the Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza Winery in Posoamargo (Cuenca).
These ratings symbolize important recognition of the Cuenca born PDO wines, which have received a multitude of prizes and awards this year, with appearance in this prestigious list representing its continued commitment with quality.
Robert Parker has rated more than a thousand Spanish wines, which comes to add even more value to the fact that Casa Gualda is present in his list; more specifically the Plus Ultra is rated as excellent with 90 points, while the Syrah with its 87 points is considered as notable.
Javier Prósper, President of the Ribera del Júcar PDO, is very proud of the rating that Robert Parker has assigned to the wines, commenting that “in particular the representatives of the Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza Winery are extremely happy; as we have all dedicated tremendous effort to our work and appearing in this list is a wonderful prize. It’s not the first time that Ribera del Júcar PDO wines appear in Robert Parker’s list, as already in 2008 and 2009 we obtained excellent ratings, which comes to confirm that we have been on the right path ever since we started. With this trajectory we are certain that our wines will continue appearing amongst the best of this famed critic’s list.”
The fact that our wines have been included in this rating is an important indication of quality and what is even more important is that it turns the wines into a reference for the US and worldwide markets, “and we obviously expect this rating to have very positive consequences,” Javier Prósper affirm. “Thus this is precisely the line along which we will continue working; we are now known internationally, yet being boosted and promoted at this level opens up a whole new range of possibilities for us.”
Parker’s Rating System
According to Robert Parker’s rating system, the American wine critic starts the rating at 50 points, as of which points are added up to a maximum of 100 points, all this dependent on the wine’s color, aroma, palate and how the wine changes.
Following up on the initial 50 points with which all wines start, the parameters applied are: evaluation of color and appearance may add another 5 points, while aroma and bouquet add 15; on the palate and finish, 20 points; and finally, the global quality level and potential for future changes and improvement can add another 10 points.
Hence, wines that obtain between 90 and 100 points are rated as excellent; while wines standing between 85 and 90 points are considered as notable; and wines between 80 and 84 points are considered as good.
