The Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin is now set to participate in the world of education.
The students of the ‘Escuela de la Vid e Industrias Lácteas’ (School of the Vine and Dairy Industries) of Madrid enjoyed the opportunity to taste the wines that belong to the Cuenca based Protected Designation of Origin .
To participate in the greatest possible number of showcasing events and approach the general public, that is consumers and professionals, is one of the objectives of the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin, which is now participating in all sorts of forums, encounters, trade fairs and contests in order to promote its wines and the quality of the same. Now it is the turn of the world of education and, duly complying with its philosophy of approaching absolutely all scopes, a tasting session-conference has been imparted to a group of 27 students from the ‘I.E.S. Escuela de la Vid e Industrias Lácteas’ of Madrid.
The students who enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this tasting-session conference, which was imparted under the responsibility of Juancho Villahermosa, Manager of the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin, are all students in the “Olive Oil and Wines” and “Vitiviniculture” modules, who have considered this extraordinary class or lesson as a complementary activity within their training program.
More specifically, a total of five wines pertaining to the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin have been tasted, and after the experience Juancho Villahermosa has stated that it has been very positive for everybody, “it has allowed us, as an institution, to approach the general public a bit more, but this time not only showing our wines as a product for consumption, but also from a more technical and professional point of view, as we have been able to explain the organoleptic characteristics of the wines to the students and we have shown them how to taste and smell them so that they can learn to appreciate the nuances that a normal consumer does not usually perceive”.
Likewise, the representative of the subjects that have been imparted at the tasting session-conference, Ana Belén Rodríguez, explained that this has been a complementary activity, “so that the students can see what is really behind a good wine, how it is made and the amount of sensations that can be experienced by simply smelling and tasting it”.
She also expressed her appreciation for the close ties and collaboration they enjoy with the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin, the same due to their approachability and the facilities offered to carry out this initiative, which has also been the first that has taken place, mentioning that “the experience has been highly positive because it is related with the subjects that we impart at the school; the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we would certainly like to repeat it, as it is something quite different to what usually takes place in the classroom”.
