The “Vinos de Cuenca” Awards, which took place at the Parador Nacional de Turismo (a chain of Spanish luxury hotel), were again outstanding at an event in which the best wines of the province all came together. And of course, at this nineteenth edition of the event, the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin could not fail to assist, as it is absolutely loyal to this event, always inevitably reaching the podium of the winners.

To be more specific, three of the Protected Designation of Origin wines have obtained awards: 5 Almudes Tempranillo 2010, made by the winery Cooperativa San Ginés, in Casas de Benítez, which walked away with the First Prize in the Red Wines Category; Teatinos Syrah 2010, made by the winery Cooperativa Purísima Concepción, in Casas de Fernando Alonso, which obtained the Third Prize in the Red Wines Category; and Vega Moragona Tempranillo-Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2005, which won the Third Prize in the Red Reserva Wines Category.

The President of the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin, Javier Prósper, was extremely satisfied with these awards, as without a doubt “they are the fruit of a job well done”. He also clarified that “we are truly proud to be able to participate in this event at which the entire province’s wines are represented; and awards such as these are proof of the great quality of the wines made in the province of Cuenca”.

 28 wineries and 125 wines

The idea behind this contest, which is organized by the Provincial Government of Cuenca through the Committee of Honor for Provincial Development, is to award the quality of the province’s wines and to act as a sort of showcase so that they can become even better known to all.

A total of twenty-eight wineries have participated at this edition, presenting one hundred and twenty-five wines to the contest, corresponding to the varieties of white wine, rosé wine, red wine, Crianza wine, Reserva wine and presentation.
