The PDO Ribera del Júcar has been awarded two Gold Medals at the “Tempranillos al Mundo” Awards.

The Teatinos Joven 2009 and Teatinos Claros de Cuba Reserva 2006 Tempranillo wines made by the Purísima Concepción Cooperative have been awarded the Gold Tempranillo.

The Teatinos 2009 and Teatinos “Claros de Cuba” 2006 wines, made by the Purísima Concepción Cooperative, which belongs to the PDO Ribera del Júcar, have received the Tempranillo de Oro (Gold Tempranillo) at the sixth edition of the International Contest “Tempranillos al Mundo”, which in 2010 has been held in Spain for the first time (specifically in Logroño, La Rioja) and has awarded 5 great gold medals (the highest award), 52 gold medals and 47 silver medals.

This is the first time that the Purísima Concepción Cooperative has participated in this contest, in which the quality and exquisiteness of its single-variety Tempranillo red wines has again been recognized, this time with the Teatinos Joven 2009 and Teatinos “Claros de Cuba” 2006, to which the jury awarded the Tempranillo de Oro.

Teatinos Joven 2009 is a one hundred percent Tempranillo wine, made from the grapes of selected ungrafted vines that are over fifty years old. The wine has a clean and bright, deep red color with aromas of strawberry, raspberry and black berry. A clean, fresh and seductive palate completes this easy-drinking wine with a round, and velvety finish. Hence it is due to all this that this wine has been recognized in various contests at a national and international level, amongst which the Baco de Oro is to be highlighted, representing an award granted by the Spanish Union of Tasters of Young Wines; the Silver Medal recently received at the Second Contest of the Best Wines of Spain for Asia, in which it was awarded the Gold by the FERCAM, among others.

Teatinos “Claros de Cuba” is a one hundred percent Tempranillo reserve wine that has aged during twelve months in French and American oak barrels toasted at different degrees. Hence the wine gives us intense aromas of black berries, cocoa and vanilla and a soft finish, which all exports can appreciate, reason why it has also accumulated diverse recognitions, amongst which to be highlighted are the Bacchus de Oro, awarded by the Spanish Union of Tasters, classified at the Nariz de Oro 2010 contest, Gold at Vinos de Cuenca etc.

For the representatives of the PDO, presence of these wines at international contests such as this one “is essential in order to continue increasing our export level, which currently exceeds sixty percent of our sales”.

The jury was made up by fifteen great international tasters (from ten countries) and by a representative group of Spanish enologists, awarding a total of 104 wines from the 448 that rivaled in the contest. To be underlined is the presence of Federico Castellucci, Director General of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and Serge Dubois, President of the International Union of Enologists (UIOE), among others.

The International Contest “Tempranillos al Mundo”,

The Spanish Federation of Associations of Enologists (FEAE), under the auspices of the OIV and UIOE and with the sponsorship of the Government of La Rioja and the ICEX (Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade), has organized the sixth edition of the International Contest “Vinos Tempranillos al Mundo”, competition that is officially recognized by the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs.

The best wines made with Tempranillo grapes have also been present in the previous editions held in Copenhagen, Cologne, Shanghai, Paris and Stockholm. Now for the first time ever this international and itinerant wine competition is held in Spain, cradle of the grape variety that gives the contest its name.

The objective is still based on making the enological quality of the Tempranillo variety and its synonymies known to all, promoting it among consumers and international distributors and rewarding the efforts made by the producers and enologists in the qualitative improvement of their products.
