THE RIBERA DEL JÚCAR PROTECTED DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN STEPS UP TO THE PODIUM OF THE BEST AWARDS WITH THE TEATINOS WINE.

This wine, made by the Purísima Concepción Winery, has managed to make a place among the best at the Baco Medalla de Juventud a los Vinos 2009 and La Nariz de Oro Contests.

Once again the wines from Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin are the stars of the show, positioning themselves amongst the best in the most prestigious of contests. These wines are a result of team work and fruit of very important efforts made by everybody, from the vine grower right to the cooperative’s technicians, apart from the PDO’s commitment with the consumer and with quality.

In this case the wine that has recently stand out on its own has been the Teatinos wine, which belongs to the Purísima Concepción Winery in Casas de Fernando Alonso (Cuenca). This wine has managed to reach the winners’ podium in two contests in which the best wines come together: the Baco Medalla de Juventud a los Vinos 2009 Contest and the 19th Edition of the Nariz de Oro (The Golden Nose) Contest.

In the first of the two contests, the Baco Awards, the Teatinos Tempranillo wine obtained the Gold Medal in the Red Wine Tempranillo Variety category. The importance of this award, according to Juancho Villahermosa, Manager of the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin, resides in that “it is a classic, a contest that has reached a mythical status in the sector, where the best of the 2009 vintage is appraised and that evaluates the most recent wines at a national level.  Hence we can say that this wine, the Teatinos, is amongst the best wines to be found in our country”.

More specifically, this contest, in its 24th edition this year, organized by the Union Española de Catadores (Spanish Union of Wine Tasters), also aims at turning into a springboard in the promotion of the winning wines. The Guía de los 100 Mejores Vinos Jóvenes Españoles (Guide to the best 100 Young Spanish Wines) is published shortly after the contest, which gives the awarded products even more of an impact in the specialized sector and amongst lovers of good wine.

 The Nariz de Oro Contest

In the case of the second contest, the 19th Edition of the Nariz de Oro Contest that has just recently finished, the Teatinos Claros de Cuba wine has obtained the Second Best Reserva Wine award.

The PDO Ribera del Júcar has been participating in this contest since the past month of November when the first phase of the Nariz de Oro contest started in San Sebastián, finishing off during this month of June with the best wines of Spain as winners.

This contest, starting with the different semifinals in San Sebastián during the month of November, continuing in Seville in January, in Madrid in February, in Valencia in March and in Barcelona in May, has chosen the best wines thanks to a jury of wine experts. The final, which took place in Madrid this weekend, has awarded the three best wines in nine different categories from among all the wines that were tasted by the sommeliers and jury throughout the many sessions that have made up the contest.

The PDO Ribera del Júcar has been participating with its wines at all the summons of this nineteenth edition of the Nariz de Oro contest. “This long journey”, comments Juancho Villahermosa “has represented an important promotional opportunity for us, as we have been able to place ourselves in a preeminent position amongst the best wines of Spain. Thus being a part of this active wine circuit and, of course, with this second prize to the Teatinos Claros de Cuba we can be sure of the fact that our quality is more than just a mere commitment, as it has been indeed corroborated by the best experts and backed up by the consumer”.

In addition, this award is also important as it represents a confirmation that the wines from PDO Ribera del Júcar is rubbing shoulders with the very best wines in our country. 500 wines have been tasted at this contest by 400 sommeliers and a jury formed by important professional experts from the sector such as journalists representing famous wine magazines, members of different Associations of Sommeliers, winners of past editions of the Nariz de Oro contest, etc.
