THE MOST THOROUGHBRED RIBERA DEL JÚCAR PROTECTED DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN.
The Madrid Association of Sommeliers will be trying the most representative wines of the Cuenca origin Designation of Origin during a new promotional and far-ranging event aimed at enthralling new palates.
The conquering of the Madrid market and opening new doors to promotion have represented the objective of the new initiative undertaken by the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin, which is not only increasingly more active, but absolutely determined to demonstrate the quality of its wines, both within the domestic market and beyond its borders.
Thus, on Friday, February 4th, a generic tasting session of its most representative wines took place with the participation of thirty-five sommeliers who enjoyed the opportunity to try young red wines, traditional wines, Crianza wines, Reserve wines and Muscatel wines at the Madrid Association of Sommeliers.
This tasting session was presented by Juancho Villahermosa, Manager of the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin, with the session being directed by the President of the Madrid Association of Sommeliers, Luis García de la Navarra. The thirty-five professionals proceeded to try the Designation of Origin wines during the session and, once the same had finished, they all coincided in highlighting the intense flavor of the Ribera del Júcar wines and the peculiarity of a product that is produced under very special conditions that help to reinforce the quality that these wines have been demonstrating with the passing of time and represented in the multitude of awards that the wines have harvested.
Juanjo Villahermosa, Manager of the Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin, is very satisfied with the result of this experience, mentioning that “our intention is to bring our wines closer to the professional sommeliers, as they have extraordinary palates and, undoubtedly, they will give our product good references. The objective we pursue with these promotional actions is to make our wines known, but not only among the usual consumers, but also among the professionals of the sector”.
Juancho Villahermosa continues, “we hope that this event will serve to open up a new path in the market and among the Madrid public, which is very important within the wine sector”.
The Nariz de Oro Contest
Apart from this tasting session that was held in Madrid, the Ribera del Júcar P.D.O is also present and enjoying great success in the ‘Nariz de Oro’ (Golden Nose) Contest that has been taking place in different Spanish cities since last year. According to that commented by Javier Prósper, President of the P.D.O., “to participate in this contest represents an important showcase for our wines, because more than four hundred participants are competing for the Golden Nose and, therefore, they are all trying and tasting our product. We are also absolutely convinced that the Ribera del Júcar P.D.O., wine will not leave any of them indifferent, and surely our wines will conquer their palates”.
The different semi-finals have taken place in cities such as Gijón, Seville, Alicante, Barcelona and San Sebastián, with the group of sommeliers from around the country putting their knowledge and skills to the test, in particular their noses, all this in order to reach the National Finals, which are set to take place in Madrid on the dates of June 5th and 6th.
During these tasting sessions that are traveling across the breadth of the country, the Ribera del Júcar P.D.O., wines have conquered the different sommeliers participating in the contest and they are being profiled as one of the most outstanding quality labels.
The best sommeliers in each semi-final will compete for the award, fine-tuning their sense of smell even more than ever when confronted with the five alcoholic beverages. A jury of expert winemakers will evaluate the performance of the sommeliers, finely choosing only one, the one whose sense of smell is worthy of being proclaimed the ‘Nariz de Oro 2010’ (The 2010 Golden Nose). The jury will also be scoring the wines that will be finally chosen as the Best Wines of Spain. Three wines obtain awards every year from among the more than one hundred wines that are tasted by the sommeliers in two rounds that take place during the two days that the National Finals last. The chosen sommeliers will receive the prestigious ‘Nariz de Oro’ Awards to the Best Wines of Spain.
The ‘Nariz de Oro Experimenta’ (The Golden Nose Experiments) will also be taking place in parallel fashion to the contest, opening its doors to the public with a selection of exhibitors that are related with the viniculture world, all this regaled with an exciting program of gastronomic experiences.
The upcoming dates for the National Finals of the Golden Nose will be Madrid, on February 15th, Barcelona on March 22nd and San Sebastián on May 17th.
