The Ribera del Júcar Designation of Origin saw the light in the shape of a joint initiative of a group of wine cooperatives and private wineries from the province of Cuenca that decided to actively collaborate in the production and commercialization of quality wines. These wineries have made an important effort to invest in new technologies for the elaboration of great quality wines, as has been the case with the vine growers in the re-conversion of their vineyards, adding varieties such as Bobal, Tempranillo or Small-Grain Muscatel to complement the traditional grapes.
This young Designation of Origin was established in 2003 and count with an extension of more than 9000 hectares of vineyard, located in the Cuenca municipalities of Casas de Benítez, Casas de Fernando Alonso, Casas de Guijarro, Casas de Haro, El Picazo, Pozoamargo and Sisante.
The creation of the new Ribera del Júcar Appellation represents one more step taken in the line of overcoming all obstacles that makes the important effort made by our vine growers to improve their productions more than patent, adapting themselves as they have to the market and to the preferences of the most demanding of consumers, all this representing a decisive wager on the elaboration of great quality wines bottled under the Ribera del Júcar Designation of Origin.
The Ribera del Júcar Appellation is conceived as a multifunctional project based on the balance of the viticulture ecosystem, with its origin residing in practices that are respectful with the environment in that pertaining to the care of our vines and with the aim of a general development of our vine growers and the people of our villages, this by way of activities set-up in parallel fashion to wine, as is the case with eco-tourism, visits to the wineries that represent leisure alternatives enjoyed outdoors.
